About

Nancy Shelton started swimming competitively at age three. She swam throughout her childhood and young adulthood, going on to compete for Arizona State University (ASU). She competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and U.S. National Championships, and went to the 1988 U.S. Olympic Trials. She missed out on the 1988 Olympic Team and was training to make a bid for the 1992 trials when a shoulder injury cut her career short.

Forced to retire from the sport that had defined her, Nancy grappled with the loss of her identity and lifelong Olympic dream.  After years of avoidance, she finally faced this painful transition head-on, discovered her “real” calling, and founded Life After Athletics.

Applying her training as a certified life coach and personal experience as an athlete and retired athlete, she helps clients from all sports develop a new sense of self and direction, guiding them to discover passionate and purposeful lives.

A native of Reno, Nevada, Nancy moved to Tempe, Arizona to attend ASU and never left.

She no longer misses swimming; instead, she prefers walking, jogging, and watching the ducks paddle the neighborhood canal.
